knightsbridge bachelor pad

Some may want to stay at a bachelor pad in Knightsbridge in London. Some may want to buy or tent one.
Knightsbridge was originally a small hamlet or locality outside the City of London, between the villages of Chelsea (Chelsey), Kensington (Kensing town) and Charing. In the time of Edward I, the manor of Knightsbridge appertained to the abbey of Westminster. It was named after a crossing of the River Westbourne, which is now an underground river. It is recorded that the citizens of London met Matilda of England at the Knight's Bridge in 1141.

Knightsbridge

Knightsbridge is a road which gives its name to an exclusive district lying to the west of Central London. The road runs along the south side of Hyde Park, west from Hyde Park Corner, spanning the City of Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Up to Brompton Road, it is a part of the A4 arterial road, while the remainder is part of the A315.

The eponymous district comprises the areas immediately surrounding Knightsbridge (the road) on the north, Sloane Street to its junction with Pont Street, and Brompton Road to its junction with Beauchamp Place.

Surrey Hills

The Surrey Hills is in Surrey, England. The highest summit of the hill range is Leith Hill near Coldharbour, at 294m / 965 ft above sea level, or 314m / 1,029 ft above when Leith Hill Tower is considered.

The Surrey Hills area has three long distance walks running through it. These are the North Downs Way, the Greensand Way and the Pilgrims' Way. Blackheath Common now threatened by gas and oil drilling, is also part of this area.

The northern ridge of these hills is predominantly formed by chalk and the southern ridges are predominantly greensand. They provide a haven for many rare plants and insects. Parts of the area are owned and managed by the National Trust, including Ranmore Common, Leith Hill and Box Hill.

North Downs

The North Downs are a ridge of chalk hills in south east England that stretch for 120 miles (190 km) from Farnham in Surrey to the White Cliffs of Dover in Kent.
'Downs' is from Old English dun meaning, amongst other things, 'hill'. The word acquired the sense of 'elevated rolling grassland' around the fourteenth century. These hills are prefixed 'north' to distinguish them from the morphologically similar range of hills - the South Downs - which run roughly parallel to them but some 50km to the south.
